Once again, we had the pleasure of spending a few hours with some of New York’s finest as we were invited back to present a block of instruction at the New York City Police Department’s Interrogator’s Course today. Held at the United States Marshall’s Regional Fugitive Task Force headquarters at Industry City Brooklyn, this was a great opportunity to speak to over 50 new investigators as they began to learn about the most effective methods for eliciting information.

We talked about the importance of understanding rapport as a foundation for good interviewing, how to develop and maintain rapport across multiple cognitive levels, and how to diagnose the situation when an interview is simply not going to plan. We finished with a series of case studies that showed these principles in action and helped these new interviewers see how they could be applied in real-life contexts.

It’s always nice to be invited back to the “other side of the river,” especially when you have a receptive audience who are passionate about improving their craft, so we really enjoyed the day and the discussion. It was also great to catch up with friends in the training team as the hospitality of the NYPD is absolutely second to none.
From everyone at Strategic Interview Solutions, we wish these new investigators all the best as they start their journey into the greatest job in the greatest show in the world.
